Camera Performance Notice: FLIR A50 and A70 Thermal Cameras
Attention: FLIR A50/A70 customers
Ensuring the quality and reliability of our products is our top priority at Viper Imaging. We have discovered a supplier issue and wanted to make this information available to our customers. The reason for this notice is inconsistent camera shutter performance in specific environmental conditions.
Statement from FLIR:
The shutter has shown a tendency to get stuck when used in extremely low humidity environments. If cameras are being used in environments where the humidity is not low, the shutter has shown no tendencies to get stuck. If a camera is not experiencing any shutter related issues, the unit is not affected.
FLIR has responded with enhancements to the shutter design to improve performance and reliability in environments with extremely low humidity levels. For more information, please refer below.
Does this affect me?
If your facility has FLIR A50/A70 cameras manufactured before January 19, 2024, this could affect you.
What action is required?
If your camera manufacture date is before January 19, 2024, we kindly request that you monitor its performance closely, particularly in environments with extremely low humidity (typically caused by air purge systems with active vortex cooling). If you encounter any issues or anomalies with the shutter performance, please discontinue use of the camera and contact Viper customer support immediately for further assistance.
Next steps
Our team is committed to providing a prompt and seamless solution for our customers who have been affected. Upon receiving notice of an issue, Viper will work diligently to resolve the problem as soon as possible. Depending on camera availability, the affected cameras will either be replaced or undergo a warranty repair by Teledyne FLIR.
The Service Warranty for maintenance and repair work completed through Teledyne FLIR Commercial Systems carries a 180-day warranty against defects in materials and workmanship related to the Service activity completed.
FLIR Camera Improvements
In response to this issue, FLIR has implemented two improvements – an antistatic coating and improved motor control. The antistatic coating makes the shutters more stable and less affected by static build-up in environments with extremely low humidity. FLIR also improved the shutter motor to make it more resilient to sticking.
It is of utmost importance that our products protect you, your employees, and your equipment. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause and are here for you should you need assistance.
