Infrared Imaging: Viper Services

Increase Plant Up-Time with Viper Infrared Imaging and Inspection Services

Viper Imaging offers expert infrared inspection services designed to detect hidden issues in mechanical, electrical, and structural systems. Using advanced thermal imaging technology, we help industrial and commercial clients prevent costly repairs, minimize downtime, and improve energy efficiency. Our certified thermographers leverage decades of experience and high-performance infrared cameras to detect issues like electrical faults, insulation breakdowns, and thermal leaks—even in challenging environments.

These non-contact, non-destructive inspections are performed while systems are operational, making them ideal for preventive maintenance. We serve a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, oil & gas, power generation, and property management. Infrared thermography is also applicable for security monitoring and scientific research, offering real-time insights through high-resolution thermal imagery.

What to Expect from a Viper Inspection

Each inspection includes a full thermographic and visual equipment scan, followed by a detailed report outlining temperature anomalies and providing repair recommendations. Our infrared cameras detect minute temperature variations—down to 0.1°C—and operate effectively even in low-light conditions. We use both cooled and uncooled detector technologies tailored to each application.

The inspection process involves thorough planning, precise data capture, and expert analysis. We also offer follow-up inspections to ensure all issues are resolved and systems remain within safe operational parameters. From control panels and substations to rotating machinery and refractory systems, Viper Imaging delivers reliable thermal diagnostics that keep your plant running at peak performance.

Infrared Inspection Services (Hot Spots = Indication of Problem Area)

Infrared inspection, or thermography, is used throughout industry as a diagnostic tool for finding problems. Infrared inspection is a non-destructive, non-contact, and cost-effective way to detect and document hot spots. Our high-performance infrared cameras have a broad range of temperature measurements and produce superior image quality.

Our inspection service includes a thermographic and visual equipment scan with a comprehensive report of the findings. Scroll down to view a sample report!

Calibration of Thermal Imaging Cameras and Pyrometers

The highly specialized cameras used for systems monitoring should be calibrated annually to optimize performance. Viper uses precision blackbody calibration sources to ensure the reliability of measurements being made. This will inspect for camera drift as well as uniformity.

  • Send your equipment to Viper for NIST traceable calibration checks and certification. (up to 1200°C)

  • On-site calibration checks are also available. (up to 550°C)

Compressed Air Leak & Partial Discharge Detection

Acoustic imaging can locate pressurized leaks in compressed air systems or detect partial discharge from high-voltage electrical systems. Let us help extend compressor life by eliminating wasted output, and minimize equipment failure resulting from PD and corona issues.

  • Pinpoint compressed air leaks
  • Classify partial discharge type
  • Identify corona discharge day or night

Quarterly Service Plan

This one-day (or more upon request) on-site service inspection includes the following:

  • Calibration checks and certification of infrared cameras and pyrometers
  • ViperVision software upgrades
  • Preventive maintenance of software
  • Evaluation of software logs, if applicable
  • Confirm communication to control system, if applicable
  • Optic checks (verifying camera focus)
  • Window cleaning and pressure check of ViperVenom enclosures, if applicable

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Infrared inspection can be used on various industrial equipment, including electrical switchgear, motors, bearings, transformers, furnaces, boilers, and process piping. Any component that emits heat is a candidate for thermographic analysis. Infrared technology also plays a crucial role in night vision applications, allowing objects to be detected and interpreted in low-light conditions.

You should conduct infrared inspections at least annually as part of your preventive maintenance program. However, quarterly or monthly inspections may be more appropriate for critical systems or high-risk environments to ensure consistent reliability. Infrared thermography measures the infrared radiation emitted by an object’s surface, which depends on the object’s temperature, making it essential to perform these inspections regularly.

No. Infrared inspections are performed while your equipment runs, making them ideal for detecting faults under real-world operating conditions. You don’t need to shut down machinery, which isn’t enough to cause operational disruption.
